Stop The Mac Tax Grab

Disclaimer:

This petition is not officially sponsored by WeAreMAC; however, much of the WeAreMAC leadership was instrumental to get this petition in motion. Voters did approve a Fire District; however, voters should also have a right to decide where their tax dollars are spent. Yet, McMinnville City leaders have decided to use the money for their own interest. This petition will force the city to let the voters decide, and also will limit an increased assessment for property taxes.

More details:

The citizens of McMinnville voted to disband the city Fire Department. The citizens of the rural Fire Department voted to disband their Fire Department. The citizens of both McMinnville and the rural voted to create a new Fire District that followed the boundaries of the old rural district and now includes the city and rural as one district.

The City has a total tax authority of $5.02/1000. Of that, $1.50/1000 was previously funding the fire department. The creation of the new district meant that the city should only be needing $3.52/1000. The city held to that for the first year. The City Budget Committee has decided to bring back $0.50/1000 of the $1.50/1000 for the next fiscal year. The budget committee is wanting to bring back the remaining $1/1000 in the subsequent fiscal year.

The initiative is for voters to say they do, or do not, want the city to be required to ask citizens at the ballot for permission to bring back more than 3%/year of the $1.50/1000 that was previously allocated to the City Fire Department. If approved, the initiative would set the City tax levy at $3.52/1000 for this coming fiscal year, and only allow a 3% annual increase without voter approval.

During the campaign for creation of the new district, the city said it would ask voters before bringing back any of the $1.50/1000. The city alleges it did so by way of a survey which received a lackluster response, and was aimed at asking how citizens wanted the $1.50/1000 to be spent. There was not a readily apparent option for citizens to say they didn’t want the $1.50/1000 to come back at all, or at what pace to bring it back.

Parent’s Rights In Education

Displaying obscene materials to minors is a Class A misdemeanor. It makes absolutely no sense that this is a crime off school property, but is allowed on school property. If the excuse is that it is for “educational” purposes, then reality would show that teenagers are becoming healthier with all this material. The truth is that there is more teenage drug and alcohol use, more teen pregnancies, more teen violence and suicide than ever before. I am not saying these books are causing this, but I am asking the question, are these books influencing this behavior? – Cindy Allen

Consider This

Have you said yourself, or heard someone say, “I am not political” or “the church only preaches the Gospel, we are not political” Actually, the Bible has several examples of “Christians” being involved in politics:

  • Paul confronted the Roman and Greek government. Peter confronted religious leaders and false teachers
  • Jesus preached He is the King of kings, thus offending the government of His day (and His Gospel still does today)
  • The prophets of the Old-Testament always confronted the kings and leaders.
  • God gave Moses the Law (morality & conduct). Moses established Government Law and Rule that our 3-branches of government are founded on: Legislative, Executive, Judicial.
  • Even our founding father’s knew the value of the Bible, read “100 Bible Verses that Made America” by Robert J. Morgan
  • The Liberty Bell, quotes Leviticus 25:10, “Proclaim liberty throughout all the land to all its inhabitants.”
