Hello, I am Forrest Peterson, and as some of you know I am involved with Town and Country PAC.
I have questions, and I hope you can help me find answers.
We’re not activists; our committee’s focus is on giving you, as a member of the community, the info you need. If there is particular information you’re looking for, please don’t hesitate to contact us and we will see what we can provide. Please note, though, that we deal strictly in factual content. Submissions for publication must be backed by evidence.
In my upcoming columns, I’ll be sharing info that’s based on solid facts. At other times, I might share my personal take on things, and I’ll make sure to tell you when I do. After all, everyone’s entitled to their own opinion.
Political Extremes
My questions come from simply observing the state of politics today. How have we arrived here in this divisive political landscape?
When I was younger, I remember people wanting to work together. What happened?
We talk about the Extreme Right and Extreme Left too much, and never talk about Center Right or Center Left. Here’s how I see extremists on both sides: like little kids trying to scream the loudest because they didn’t get their way.
Not long ago, I had no interest in politics. But as I listened to newscasts and podcasts, and read about things going on in our schools, this movement toward intolerance of others seemed to grow. Finally, I’d had it! I wanted to say “wait a minute, what’s going on here?!”
So, I talked with some like minded people, and they filled me in on some things:
CRT, DEI, What is This Stuff??
Can anyone tell me what changed? We are The United States of America! Our forefathers worked together to form our great country. We have a constitution that talks about this very explicitly:
Looking up the purpose of the Constitution from the U.S. Senate (.gov), “government powers to safeguard the interests of majority rule and minority rights, of liberty and equality, and of the federal and state governments.”
If you want to elect a candidate or vote for or against a measure, our government has a system set up for that, to allow you to vote for what you believe in. Some elected officials, however, have manipulated these laws to favor a certain faction of people in exchange for “old-fashioned pork barreling.”
Change is possible, but it has to happen at the ballot box!
Do people want to change? Change can be a good thing, but it can also take some work. How many times have you heard, “It starts with you.” ?
It’s my belief that if we sit back and do nothing, somebody will make changes for us, whether we like those changes or not. Instead, let’s please work together: share your thoughts and help me understand where you’re coming from in all this. Let’s show the world how, together as a group, we can make the changes we want happen.
So those are my questions. I’m looking for some guidance and a range of perspectives as I try to find the answers. My hope is that you’ll respond and share your thoughts with me, even if it’s done anonymously. I would like to see the heartbeat of this community.
Let’s get started.
